Hypnotherapy, also known as hypnosis or hypnotic suggestion, is a form of therapy used to create a very relaxed state of mind. A hypnotherapist guides you through an altered state of consciousness where suggestions or statements are embedded into the subconscious mind. When we think of hypnosis, we usually think of those stage acts used for entertainment purposes only. We think of a hypnotist swinging a watch in front of our eyes while we are entranced and do everything the hypnotist tells us to do. However, were you aware that you could use hypnosis for self development?

Myths About Hypnotherapy 
Before we get into what hypnotherapy is, let's talk about what hypnotherapy is not. First, many people think that they will lose control over their body, but this is a myth. During hypnosis a person is fully aware of what's going in their immediate environment. A hypnotherapist is a guide or coach – not someone who wants to control your body. Secondly, there is no danger in hypnotherapy. You cannot do anything that goes against your moral values.A third myth about hypnotherapy is that a person can get "stuck" in hypnosis. Sometimes people do end up falling asleep while undergoing hypnotherapy or they come out of it when the hypnotherapist stops talking.

What Do People Use Hypnotherapy For?
Some people use hypnotherapy to relax and meditate, but you can also use it as a tool to improve your way of life. Hypnotherapy has been used to lose weight, stop smoking, become more confident, quite drinking alcohol, cure problems in personal relationships, find a soulmate, and more. Whatever you want to manifest in your life, you could do so using hypnotherapy.

Most of us experience a form of hypnosis when we get in the car and drive to a place that we've driven to dozens of times. You arrive at your destination, but don't even remember driving there! That's because you were in "auto-pilot". It's the same as being in a hypnotic state. Another way people experience a state of hypnosis is they became really involved in a book or movie.

Hypnotherapy Techniques 
There are several techniques used in hypnotherapy for self development:

  1. a) The hypnotherapist talks in a calming and smooth tone offering suggestions that will inspire you to take action
    b) The hypnotherapist uses guided imagery to help bring about your wants and desires. You are asked to concentrate on an image in your mind which brings you into a state of complete peace, joy, and relaxation.
    c) You can perform hypnosis on yourself (self-hypnosis), but your hypnotic state won't be as deep as when a hypnotherapist does it on you.

Hypnotherapy is most effective when you have an open mind and just concentrate on being in the moment. There have been countless amounts of people who have used it to improve their lives. Use it consistently and you will start to see dramatic changes in your life for the better.
